[OpenClaw 2.0](https://openclaw.ai/blog/openclaw-2-accidentally), released August 30, expands accessibility to agent development without hardening critical security defaults. The [release notes for v2026.8.1](https://docs.openclaw.ai/releases/2026.8.1) explicitly state that shared sessions "are not tenant isolation or a security boundary," secrets are "not encrypted at rest," and sandboxing requires manual setup. The [official security guide](https://docs.openclaw.ai/gateway/security) warns prompt-injection risk remains acute, especially with smaller models.

The gap is straightforward: easier deployment while the security work stays hard. [The Register's](https://www.theregister.com/ai-and-ml/2026/08/31/openclaw-20-pours-glitter-on-slow-burning-security-dumpster-fire/5293492) read is that OpenClaw 2.0 trades default hardening for installation simplicity, reaching users who may not understand these requirements.

OpenClaw isn't hiding its threat model; the documentation is honest. But easier setup without easier security is a dangerous pairing. A developer spinning up a shared harness via the new browser UI may reasonably assume basic protections are built in. They aren't. Users must hunt for the warnings, understand the threat model, and configure all defenses manually.
